February 28-March 4

Hello everyone.

What a great week we had.  We were able to mix our classes and have the grade 4s go with Mme. Anderson's class and the grade 3s go with myself.  This helped us with science.  The grade 3s were able to watch a video about rocks and minerals in French and learn important vocab while the 4s were able to watch a video about waste and recycling while also learning important vocab.  I feel we will be mixing a bit more often as we proceed with the year.

In math the students have been learning about division with the grade 4s learning about long division.  

In French we continued with our dictées, which is an oral spelling and grammar exercise in which the students need to listen carefully to French words and try to correctly conjugate simple verbs and properly write adjectives.  Afterwards we go overt he sentence as a class.

 Hello everyone, Those were a couple short weeks. In math we wrapped up multiplication and began division.  We've looked at how to draw pictures to help us divide things into even groups, and also uneven groups with remainders.  Today we talked about what to do with remainders.  If it's a thing that can't be divided, like putting people into groups, we can make some groups larger than others.  If it's something that can be cut, such as a pizza or a cookie, we discussed how to we can share the remainder.  We've also been learning about money, it's values and practiced dividing that as well. In French we recorded our videos and shared them with the class.  They worked out well. We are wrapping up social for now and will be moving into more science.  We'll be looking at waste in our world in grade 4 and in grade 3 we'll be looking at rocks and minerals.  First we'll start with some vocabulary, then move into centers. Feb 7-11

Hello everyone. It was a great week.  We're wrapping up multiplication and area and moving onto division.  We're realizing that we already do division quite often in our lives and that we already have an understanding of what it is.  Now we just have to figure out how to represent it mathematically, how it relates to multiplication and how to do it with larger numbers. We've been learning about different pronouns in French, such as 1st, 2nd and 3rd person singular and plural, and how verbs change based on which person we're using.  We've begun working on a script for a small skit wherein students can practice conjugating verbs in this way.  We'll be filming those scripts in a few days. In social we're still working on our trading cards and resource maps, and they will be finished soon.   Upcoming important dates Feb 17-18 - Teacher convention - No school Feb 21 - Family day - No school

 Hello, and welcome back to our blog.  It was a great week.  We worked hard at drawing place values of our numbers, we're looking at our identity and we created trading cards of our heroes. Speaking of heroes, Wednesday September 22nd is our Terry Fox run.  We'll be outside so please be sure to have your student dress for the weather. Also, next Thursday and Friday is our online open house.  I've sent out a link and. you can join at 6 different times over Thursday night and Friday morning.
